Doing it with style
As promised, this is a more complex image replacement dropdown menu.
This one uses individual images for each menu link and the top level uses png images with alpha transparency (which also works in IE6).
The sub menus also have the containing boxes with png images and again this works in IE6.
All the links have a rollover state which in the case of the top level links are separate images due to the way IE6 handles png images, but in the sub menu links these use a single image which is held as a background image and shifted in position on mouseover to display the rollover state.
Tested in IE6, IE7, IE8, Firefox, Opera, Safari(PC) and Google Chrome
Whereas the last menu used just 6 images, this menu uses 30 images (not including the background), and of course you will need to produce your own images if you wanted to use this menu.
