Doing it with style
No javascript, no conditional comments, no hacks, no tables, no expressions, just CSS and XHTML
Just to complete this set of menus I have produced the flyout version which takes the dropdown menu that extra step to get the top level in a vertical line. I have given the top level links a fixed width to avoid a jagged right edge to the flyouts but if you leave out this width then the flyouts will follow the width of the top level links. I have also added a small arrow to indicate the path through the menu.
Again this uses no hacks, no javascript, no conditional comments, no htc files, no tables etc etc, just html and css. It allows you to have links of any length in both the top level and subline links. It also allows you to tab through the menu in IE and Firefox.
Tested in IE6, IE7, IE7 emulation, IE8, Firefox, Opera, Safari, Chrome, Avant, SeaMonkey, Flock and Maxthon. It should also work in Mac browsers.
