poopsmith, these examples for ie use special to ie css and so will not validate. They are just to show what ie can do that other browsers cant.

I've made an example that works in more browsers than IE: https://www.veijden.nl/dexus/centering.html
I think it has a simular effect as the IE version.
And why cant I change the span's to div's, you change the display property anyway so you should be able to change the span's to div's,right?

"center" is "center" whether US or UK. "centre" is for places, i.e. City Centre, Air Canada Centre. "center" denotes the positional middle. US uses "center" for both

theone, not sure where you were taught English but you will find that there is only ONE centre in the language and that is used for both the 'centre position' and the 'centre place'. If you have been taught that one should be center then it has been 'Americanised' or should that be 'Americanized'?

I have been going NUTZ trying to get my blog template I created to center on the PC screen. I think it is the stylesheet. Does anyone know a tag or code to make it center? Thanks!

neat trick you got, how did you come up with the span element??
btw. if you give the div element a fixed height, it will work in IE7 as well.
FF2, opera9.5 wont work; safari 3 overflows the span-element.
i think since it works in both ie, a combination with conditional comments around those spans and some extra css for the ie will make it work in all browsers

this aligns for FF,op, safari perfectly in the middle;
for the ie 6 & 7 the second span should have display:inline-block
best way is to use ie hacks, because op & safari recognize inline-block
