CSS MENUSFloat drop menu system - multi level

Date : 31st December 2010

For all modern browsers

This demo is too wide for your mobile screen.
Please view on a tablet or PC.

Information

Since the introduction of the float/drop technique to produce a multi-level menu system that works in all browsers without the need for javascript, hacks, conditional comments, tables and expressions, I have been asked by many visitors if this could be adapted to produce a multi-column dropdown menu. I have been trying on and off for the past year to get this to work in all browsers including IE6 and have at last succeeded.

Although not as slick as the ones using my normal method, this one does at least allow you to have as many columns as you want, where each column can be styled separately and hold as any links as you want, and as with all the float/drop menus this one can be 'tabbed' to select any link (for those browsers that support tabbing).

The position of the columns can be styled individually and the columns can be left or right aligned.

The above demo has one, two and three columns, with the three columns centered below the parent link, and the two columns both left and right aligned so that they stay within the page boundary

Tested and working in IE6, IE7, IE8, IE9, Firefox, Safari, Opera, Chrome, Flock, SeaMonkey, iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.

I have also added CSS3 link styling of corner radii and drop shadows for those browsers that support these styles.
