Doing it with style
Tested in IE6+, Firefox, Opera, Safari, Chrome, Flock, SeaMonkey, iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.
This menu demonstrates how to overcome the 'feature' of the Safari Mobile browser as used on the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch where a dropdown menu stays open even when tapping elsewhere on the page.
My previous menus in this series use a 'Close' link or tab that cancels the 'hover' used to open the dropdown menu. But this menu uses an invisible image which fills the whole screen when the dropdown menu is open.
So, if you are viewing this on the iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch just tap any of the top level links that have a 'down' arrow to show the sub menu then tap anywhere on the screen to close this dropdown.
The same styling is used for all browsers without the need for Safari Mobile 'sniffing'.
Because of all the time and effort spent in producing this demonstration I would ask that you respect my copyright.
