Doing it with style
A centered dropline menu with overrun areas so that when the mouse is moved a small distance off the top or bottom of the dropline then the dropline will stay open.
Also if the mouse is moved diagonally from the top link to the dropline crossing adjacent top level link areas then the dropline will stay on the current selection. Only if the mouse crosses adjacent text will the dropline change to that selection. This allows a little leeway for visitors not used to navigating dropline menus.
There is also a CSS3 enhancement that fades in/out the dropline which can be seen in Safrai, Chrome and Opera.
This menu has been tested and works in IE6, IE7, IE7 emulation, IE8, Firefox, Opera, Safari, Chrome, SeaMonkey, Flock, Avant and Maxthon.
