CSS MENUSVertical concertina scrolling menu

Date : 28th January 2009

For all modern browsers

Information

The problem with vertical concertina menus using just CSS is that the sub menu lists MUST be all the same height as the longest sub menu list even if they have just a couple of sub menu items. The reason for this is that the menu will jump about and be unusable if this were not the case.

However, the above menu goes some way to overcoming this problem. The dropdown lists still have to be the same height but we can add a scrolling list for those that become too high.

In ths way it is possible to have a vertical menu that takes up a minimal amount of vertical space.

I have added scrollbar styling for IE so the CSS for this menu does not validate but if this is a problem then just remove this.

If you want a zip file of this menu then please email me.
