Doing it with style
Due to popular demand (Al and Jan) I have modified my original photgraph gallery to make it work a little differently.
This one preloads the images so is ready to use as soon as the thumbnails are loaded and is intended for use at fast download speeds.
The hover will just display the text information for the picture.
When you want to see the full size image then click the thumbnail (which is just a small area of the full sized image rather than a reduced image) and the image will appear instantly.
Works in IE5.5+ and Firefox, but Opera and Safari users will need to hold the mouse button down while the image loads as :active and :focus are only temporary states in these browsers.

I promised you a series of 'click galleries' with the thumbnails at the top, bottom, left and right, so here it is.

I have now produced a page of re-styled version of these galleries that does not preload the large images but only download them when required.
The page can be found here galleries for slow connections without pre-load.
Because of all the time and effort spent in producing this demonstration I would ask that you respect my copyright.
