CSS DEMOS@font-face - smoothing (anti-aliasing)

Date : 25th September 2011

For all modern browsers

Gabrielle Font-face
no smoothing

Gabrielle Regular - This is some text to show how it looks without any smoothing

Gabrielle Font-face
smoothing

Gabrielle Regular - The same font but this time with a little smoothing around the edges.

Information

You may have noticed when using @font-face fonts that they generally appear a little jagged around the edges. Well this is a simple method to apply a little smoothing (anti-aliasing) so that they look more appealing.

Just apply a very small text shadow in the same color as the text.

The first block of text above uses the @font-face styling and in most browsers appears a little jagged.

The second block of text has the text shadow applied and in Firefox, Opera, Safari, Chrome and IE10 it appears 'smoothed'.
