CSS DEMOSCSS3 - The future now - 3D Rotating Card

Date : 22nd February 2011

For all modern browsers

The Barn Owl

(Tyto alba) is the most widely distributed species of owl, and one of the most widespread of all birds. It is also referred to as Common Barn Owl, to distinguish it from other species in the barn-owl family Tytonidae. These form one of two main lineages of living owls, the other being the typical owls (Strigidae). T. alba is found almost anywhere in the world except polar and desert regions, Asia north of the Alpide belt, most of Indonesia, and the Pacific islands.

Information

Absolutely NO javascript, and as far as I know this cannot easliy be done with jQuery etc..

Using just CSS3 to rotate a card so that you can see the information on the reverse. This uses 3D perspective and rotation which unfortunately is only available in Safari at the moment. Chrome makes an attempt at this but does not get it right.

Just hover the image to see it rotate in perspective to show the information on the reverse side. I have also added corner radii and background gradient diagonal fills on each side of the card.

7th March 2012

Now that Firefox supports CSS3 3D transforms, this demo has been updated to include this browser. The only problem is that Firefox is not as smooth as Safari in the rendering an animation.

8th January 2013

Now working in IE10 and IE10 with touch screen, but because this browser does not support 'preserve-3d' I have had to restyle the 3d transforms to apply the perspective to each side of the card and also the animation.
