Demoralizingly good !

I wish the script for the CSS menus was seperate or downloadable because I can't easilly sort out the wheat from the chaff
I teach some web design (using tables .... ) and I want to show my students CSS as a future proof alternative.

Thanks you

Geoff

If you examine the source code you will see the css embeded in the page. This is the just the css for the particular example. The code is in the #example div.

Hi Stu. I really like this menu. There is one thing i can't figure out though :) ... I just can't seem to find out how to get the "Description Box" to "stay visible", when i move outside one of the "Item x"-boxes ... is this possible at all? Then it would be possible to use this menu, as an expanding one, without the terror of JavaScript, which i would really much like to avoid in a menu.

Anyways, nicely done.

Stu:-
It is not possible to nest links within links so this would not make a pull out menu. It can be done with non-ie browsers (check the mozilla menu) and also the 'cross browser drop down'.

Michael:-
I like this menu and I'm trying to adapt it for my own web page (URI upon request, of course!). I've been experimenting, however--dangerous thought, especially since I'm using IE 6 for Windows--and while I've had no trouble putting the menu on the right side of the page and the description box on the left (using a negative parameter for the "lk" span), I've also tried to hide the border around the link and keep it for the description box alone. Surprise, surprise: change the border color in the a:hover statement to #000 and not only the border disappears but the description box also! I don't yet see anything in the code that would explain this. What have I overlooked?

Another thing: Is there a way to size these menus using ems instead of pixels? The advantage of pixels is that they're absolute, and while ems change with the font-size, that plus turns into a minus when trying to match objects in one category (the overall menu) with another (the <a>s and <p>s--and if you know the history of American grocery stores you know why that phrase suddenly raises a chuckle for me). Have you any thoughts on the whole px vs. ems question?

Stu:-
Hi Michael, you have discovered the IE pop-up bug :o)
If you want to remove the border from the link then you need to replace it with 'white-space: normal;' (there are a few other triggers but I find this one best). IE needs this to make it redraw the menu.
As to px v ems, my thoughts are that they both serve a purpose (BTW px sizes are resizeable in FF etc.)
To change this menu to ems just alter every px size (width, height, font etc) to an em equivalent or whatever is suitable and it should still work.

June D.:-
This is in regards to menu six.
I can get this to work for me using the codes you gave but how do I get the arrows?
